The testicles also produce the hormone inhin that effects back on the brain and make it produce less GnRH, especially when much FSH and LH is present, and then less FSH and LH is produced due to decreased stimulation on the pituitary from GnRh.
By the secretion of inhibitin and activin, the productions of FSH and LH are moderated.
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
- The anterior pituitary gland, situated under the brain, secretes FSH. LH is chemically a glycoprotein, that is a combination of protein and sugar-like components. FSH stimulates the seminiferous tubules to maturate during puberty, the tubes inside the testicles where the sperm cells are produced. It also stimulates the spermatoblasts to maturate, the cells that give origine to the sperm cells, so that sperm cells can be produced. It further stimulates the sertoli cells to maturate so they can react to stimulation by testosterone. The sertoli cells hold and nurture the sperm cells during maturation.
Luteinizing hormone (LH)
- The anterior pituitary gland, situated under the brain, secretes also LH. LH is chemically a glycoprotein, that is a combination of protein and sugar-like components. LH stimulates the Leydig cells in the testicles to produce testosterone during puberty and thereafter. Since testosterone further stimulates maturation of the sexual organs LH is in many ways the superior hormone that starts puberty and maintains a mature state in a man thereafter.

- Testosterone is chemically a steroid hormon, that is a hormone derived from cholesterole. The Leydig cells in the testicles produce testosterone, and also the adrenal glands produce some of this hormone. During puberty testosterone stimulates the tissus of the male sexual organs to grow and mature. It further stimulates the body hair, and especially the pubis to grow stronger. iT also stimulates muscle and bone to grow and get stronger.After puberty it stimulates the same tissues to maintain their ample and mature state. It is especially secreted much when there is much FSH and LH in the body. Inhibin helps to hinder a too high production of the pituitary hormons.
Activin
- The sertoli cells in the testicles produce the protein hormonal substance activin. This hormone acts back on the brain and pituitary and increase the production of GnRH, LH and FSH. It is especially secreted much when there is little FSH and LH in the body. Activin helps to stimulate the pituitary to produce more sex hormons and helps to hinder the concentration of these hormons from being too low.
Nitrogen oxide (NO)
- When nerve impulses to stimulate erections are sent to the genital area, the nerve endings produce nitrogen oxide.
