What are homeopathic medicine and homeopathic drugs
When making homeopathic medicine one uses ingredients that produce the same symptoms as the disease treated when given in high amounts. But these ingredients are not used in concetrations high enough to produce the symptoms. Instead the ingredients are diluted in a special way by several steps.
First one blends an ingredient in a ratio 1:10 in some solvent. The ingredient is then thorroughly mixed by continous shaking. This shaking secures that all molecules of the solvent has been in contact with the working ingredient blended in.
Then the solution is deluted once again in a ratio 1:10 in more solvent. Again the new thinner solvent is shaken for a long time so that all molecules in the new solvent has been in contact with molecules from the original solusionm both the original dilutant molecules and the remaining working molekules. This delution process is repeated many times, for some remedies even to an extend that there is no molecule left of the original substance.
According to the extent of delution, a homeptahtic drug is said to have a certain potence, which simply is the number of times that teh delution process has been repeated. The potency is indicated by this number and the letter x: 2x, 3x, 4x -- 10x.
The best potency of a specific drug against a specific symptom or sets of symptoms is a matter of experience.
Often the ultimate solution is blended into a substance, for example sugar, and this blending is set to dry up, and from the dry product one makes pills. The potency of the solution is then, according to theory, transfered to the solid solvent.
Do homeopathic drugs work
it is disputed in the scientific field whether homeopathic remedies really work or not, appart from a placebo effect and the effect of the conversation with the homeopath. There has been done scientific researches that have given positive results for the effect of the remedies upon given diseases or symptoms.
These scientific investigations have then be reviewed by other scientists that have found methodological faults. But there is no scientific investigation vithout faults or bias, and there is no critical review without bias, not in alternative nedicine and not in conventional medicine.
Also, all investigations have faults, but there is a tendency to pose a heavy weight upon the faults of investigations of alternative methods leading to positive results, and a tendency to take less in conciderations faults that make a positive investigative result about standard medical methods and standard pharmacy.
The best advice about using such remedies or not is therefore simply this: If you have used such remedies before and got a positive result, then it is worth using them once again. If someone you knows can tell about positive results, it is worh trying. And it may still be worth trying homeopathy just to see if it works for you if you have not found other remedies that work fully satisfactorily. The cost of making such a try is very little.
How do homeopathic drugs work
Noone understands i depth the nature of those traces that are supposed to make homeopathy work, but they may originate in the Quantum Mechaniucal behaviour of all matter. When two particles have been in contact and then separates, the behaviour of these two particles is to some extend coordinated thereafter, they are said to be entangled. The properties of the particles will depend upon each other.
After all the dilutions of the original substance, the molecules of the solvent is thus thought to have a behaviour that is coordinated with that of the original substance, and this altered behaviour may be recogized by the immune system of the patient.
The properties of the solvent having been potentiated will then trigger responses in the immune system and in the mechanisms that repair damages in the body. Thus a homeopathic drug is supposed to works in a manner that is analogous to a vaxination process.
Another explanantion might be that the diluted substance causes some kind of reaction between water molecules so that these are coupled to greater bodies with the diluted substance serving as a kind of model.
Coupeling of water molecules to form bodies do actually occur all the time in water, but these are not believed to be stable. However, if some of these bodies are stable and they themselves cause more water to couple ihis way, the potentiated solution may contain a great concentration of such bodies somehow modelled after the original diluted molecules, and steadily new bodes would be formed to replace those that decay.
If the immune and repair mechanisms in the body have a means to recogize such complexes of coupled water molecules, the bodies of coupled water molecules could trigger healing mechanisms.
Another similar explanation may be that the soluted substance changes the way that the water molecules constantly moove between ecah other, bump into each other and temporarily attach to each other. Quantum mechanical effects cause all these dynamic occurances not to be random, but have a wave-like structure. Perhaps the dissolved substance moderate this dynamic structure in some ways, and that modeification is transfered to the new water by each dillution. Then that specific dynamic pattern may trigger the healing mechanisms of the body.
These mechanisms are however somewhat more difficult to understand in those cases where the ultimate solution is blended with some solid substance, like sugar, and the solvent is let vaporate. Sugar is however also a polar substance that easily is organized by other substances it comes in contact with.
For substances that are diluted only a few times, the effect may be a more ordinary vaccination effect.
About traditional chinese herbal medicine
According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), specific diseases are caused by one or mor imbalances in the body and mind of the patient, or between the patient and the surroundings. The imbalances are seen as exagerated, weakened and abnormal body functions, mental functions or feelings. They can also be seen as exaggerated, decreased or abnormal reactions to environmental impact or stimuli fom other persons.
Diseases are of course often caused by bacteria, viruses and other microbes. But the body has an immune defence that in most cases will hinder the microbes from attacking effectively if it functions properly. The primary imbalances weaken the immune system so that the microbes more easily attack. In this way such imbalances are causal factors also for infectious diseases.
Because of this philosophy, traditional Chinese medicine do not only treat the symptoms or manifestations of the concrete disease, but in equal or even greater extend targets itself against the basic imbalances that cause the disease. Because these imbalances often cause several diseases simultanously or at different times, the treatment will often help against or prevent more problems than the specific disease that one sought help for.
Chinese herbal medicine is working according to these principles in the same way as other fields of traditional Chinese medicine, like acupuncture. In order to work as effectively as possible according to the basic principles, good chinese herbal drugs are allways custom made in accordance with the properties of the body and mind of the patient and according to the exact manifestations of the health problems.
Often people suffer from diseases that give specific symptoms, but the doctors still do not find out the disease mechanisms that cause the symptoms, and often it is neither possible to give the condition of the patient a sure diagnosis. Because the doctors do not know what machanisms to attack, a good treatment in the westert tradition are often not found for such cases. In these cases Chinese medicine can be of greater help because it targets against imbalances that are the primary cause of the disease.
