Some tips about protecting, washing and caring for your car
Beware of authomatic car washers. The rotating brushes of these contraptions are often contaminated by sand particles, and these will rip up the paint of your car, and worse - scrap up the window glass. If you choose to wash your car in an authomtic washer, use a washer in a petrol station you know have a good cleaning procedure for the washer brushes.
If you live in an area with much salt in the environment or an area where the roads are salted in the winter to make snow melt, you should wash away salt from your car regularly. Salt makes your car corrode.
When you drive, keep good distance to the car in front of you, both for your own safty, and for protection of your car. The car in front of you will allways throw up small stones and particles that hit your car, make bumps, rip up the paint, and make injuries to the car window glasses.
Dust and other impurities both hurt your car, decrease the performance and lower the security. Salty substances make hard deposits and they make the matallic parts of your car rusty.
However the action of washing also wears on your car. Therefore you must clean, wash and groom your car - however not too often and not too seldome. Here hare some advices about good car care:
Wash your car at least one time each 14th days with a good soap or car wash medium. You can use a pressure washer, or wash by hand. The clothes or swamps you use by hand-washing must be clean before you use them. If not sand particles and the like stuck to the cloth or swamp wil scrap up your car.
Wash both the body, the windows at the outside and inside, under the car, the inner and outer parts of the wheels, the tires and also wash the brakes. According to how good result you want, you can use just soapy water for it all or special washing soap or media for the windows and the car body.
Clean the inside of your car with a vacuum cleaner every 14th day. And then wash all smooth inside surfaces with soapy water or a special cleaning medium for the inside of vehicles.
Every half year also dissolve fatty and salty deposits in the wheels, the brakes and exposed suspension part. After the rinsing, it can be usuful to smear or spray on a corrosion protective medium.
Also every half year rinse the windows so that all fatty substanceas go away, and then wax the windows with a water-expelling wax.
There are many good rinsers for the windows that you can spray on the windows, apply with the cloth unblanded or apply blended with water. You can also cut an apple or a lemon in two peases, and rinse the windows with the fruit flesh, and then was with an ordinary soap. Also rinse the windows at the insides. Fatty substances deposited at the outer or inner parts of the windows can considerably decrease the sight through the windows and decreae the security.
At least every half year, vax the car body after the wash.
Between these scheduled washes, wipe the windows when you see they get dusty or fatty and flush away heavy durt from the car body. However, do not perform any hard or thorrough wash between the main washing sessions, because too much washing will easily scrap up and wear on the surface of your care.
In the winter time you shall ideally wash your car inside and let it dry before you take it out. If this is not possible, wash the car part by part and dry each part before you begin with the next. Do not let water hide in your car when you set it aside in the cold. The water will freeze and glue parts of your car together or clog important parts, for example the locks, the wipers or the doors. Locks and other parts glued together or clogged by ice will easily get hurt when you open the car and start it.
If the car has ice deposited on itself or inside mechanisms, dissolve the ice in the locks with a suitable medium, or by warming before you open the car, then start the car and let itself warm up to melt all ice before you use it. It is better to get the ice melted instead of scrapping it away, because scrapping ice will always hurt glasses and the body to some extend.
Letting the motor of your car be running just to warm it up, is not good for the environment, but sometimes you get into a situation when you must decide for a trade-off between things best for the environment and actions protecting your valuable objects. Using an electric warming system will often solve this dilemma in a good way.
How to drive economically
Gas prizes are soaring, and therefore economical driving habits are of increasing interest for everyone, especially if you operate a great car in a commercial business. Driving economically means using as little fuel as possible and also driving in a way that exert as little wearing as possible on your car as possible.
Generally speaking a steady speed from beginning to the end of the trip is the most economical way of driving. Any driving habit that makes you break often and often accelarate again will increase your cost of driving and maintaining the car.
By acceleartion you use fuel to give your car chinetic energy. When the car is in motion at a good speed, you only use gas to overwin loss of energy due to friction and air resistance.
Frequent use of brakes and frequent accelaration wear on your car's mechanical parts more that a steady driving, especially if you break and accelarate abruptly.
If you have to reduce the speed, the most economical way of doing it is to let off the gas in good time and let the motor slow down the speed, and only use the brakes minimally.
The right speed is also of importance for economical driving. The most economical speed is around 90 km/h. Practically it means that driving around the legal speed limit on the rouad is usually also the speed that gives you the most for the fuel you use. The higher the speed, the higher is the air resistance, but the total inner mechanisms in your car operate more effectively in a relative high speed, provided you use the gerbox right.
Driving in manners that exert great mechanical impact on the machanical parts of your car will over time cost your more money used for maintaining and repairing your car. Driving with a high speed in abrupt curvatures will for example wear on your car.
Right use of gears is important. Generally high gears are more economical than low gears as long as the motor is operating without straining. A high gear means that the mechanical parts inside your car move slower and slower motion exert less friction that you must use energy to overcome. Less inner friction also gives less wearing on the mechanical parts.
To drive economically you use as high a gear as possible without creating functional problems for the motor.
There is however a trad-off between economics and safe driving. Sometimes it is safer to reduce the speed and then accelarate to the normal speed again, for example in abrupt curves, in situations where the sight is bad, when the road is wet or when the road is slippery. Sometimes even an abrupt accelaration is more safe than a slow acceleration.
