Herbalife - This diet is based on replacing one or two meals a day with a shake made of water and a powder containing proteins, vitamins and minerals. The program also has teas to drink that shall help elimination of excessive water and help the fat burning, and also has certain other nutrient supplements to help weight loss and general health. Herbalife is sold through a multilayer marketing approach (MLM).

High protein Diets - In this diet, one predominantly eats high proteine food like lean meat, fish, poultry and lean diery products. Food containing much fat or much carbohydrates are restricted. Vegatables are important ingredients in the diet for their content of fibres, minerals and vitamins.

Hip and Thigh Diet ( by Rosemary Colney ) - This is a very low fat and very low calory diet. The diet has a middle amount of carbohydrates and a fairly high protein content. It is based on a book that have a lot of meal plans you can choose from for each days. Hollywood 48 Hour - This diet is based on only consuming a special composed juice in a 48 hours period. The claim is that the juice will clean your body and be good for your digestive system and for your general health, and because of these effects you will burn fat faster and loose weight. Being without food in 48 hours will also make you loose weight by itself. After the 48 hour's period you gradually over some days go to a healthy diet style and remain on that healthy diet.

Jenny Craig diet - This is an individually guided diet program sold from a chain of company locations or franchesees. It is based on a balanced nutrient consume with all kinds of nutrients present, with much fruit and vegetables and with a controlled calory intake. It is furthermore based on ready made meals that must be purchased from the company or its subsidiaries.

LA Weight Loss -This is a center-guided weight loss program that helps people individually to loose weight on a permanent basis with the right kind of diet and the right kind of exercise.

Liquid Diet - These are a kind of meal replacement diets. These are of two types. In one type, reserved for very obese persons, all meals are replaced by a measured quantity of liquid nutrient soup with a low calorie content. In the other version only two of the meals each day are replaced this way.

Low Carb Diet - In these diets, the carbohydrate consume is drastically reduced, but some carbohydrates are alowed. The fat consume is not reduced som much.

Low Fat Diets - These diets are based on strict restriction of fat consume, and with greater allowance for carbohydrate consume. The protein consume is as in a normal daily diet, perhaps a little higher. The little fat intake shall be from healthy essential fat sources and the carbohydrates consumed shall be from healthy sources like whole grain cereals.

Low Glycemic Index Diets - Many diets stress the neccesity of having a daily diet with a low clycemic index. The glycemic index is a measure of the speed a food source or a nutrient consumed at a point of time causes the level of sugar, mainky glucose, in the blood to elevate.

A daily diet with a low glycemic index is generally consider to be more healthy than a diet with high glycemic index. When the glycemic index of the daily diet is high, the blood sugar level will jump and fall several times each day. Consuming food with a low glycemic index make the blood sugar level stable during the whole day.

A stable blood sugar level hinders an excessive appetite, and decreases the chance of getting diabetes and other life style diseases. There is also a claim that marked rizes and falls in blood sugar make it difficult for the body to utilize sugar as an energy source, and instead the body converts it to fat and store it as fat deposits. Food consisting mainly of sugar and startch often have a high glycemic index. The consept of glycemic indes was originally ment as an aid for diabetics to keep the blood sugar level stable during the whole day.

Mayo Clinic diet - The official one - In this diet you can eat an unlimited amount of vegatables and fruits. Then you eat a somewhat lesser amount of whole cereals and products made from whole cereals or other whole starchy food sources. You eat an even less amount of proteine rich food like lean fish, meat, puoltry, low fat diery products and seafood. You shall also eat a small amount of fat rich seeds and nots.

Mayo Clinic Diet - the false one - This is a crash diet plan never endorsed by the Mayo Clinic. It is a low carbohydrate diet based around grapefruit, lots of salad and protein.

Meal replacements Diet - In these diets usually two meals are replaced with a shake made of a powder and water. The powder typically contain proteins, vitamins, minerals, some fruit or other ingredient giving taste and a very limited amout of carbohydrates. The two real meals have a balanced content of food types. This regime usually makes these diet low in carbohydrats, law in fat and possibly high in protein. Examples are Slim Fast, Boots Shapers, The camebridge Diet and Tesco’s Ultra Slim.

Mediterranean Diet - The diet is based on the principles of the traditional mediterranean food composition, but with a controlled calory intake. It is base on food like fish, seafood, poultry, pasta, raw vegetables, raw fruit, mediaterrranean type whole corn bread, spices, oilve oil, yogurt, cheese, garlic and the like. This kind of diet has a high proteine content, a low sugar content, a faily high starch content, a low glycemic index and a reasonable amount of fat, of which much is of the type mono-unsaturated (olive oil).

Mesotherapy treatment - This therapy is a treatment with the aim of loosing fat in selected parts of the body, and thus aid sculpting the body shape. It is often combined with a general weight loss and exercise program, and often done in the same medical center that admisters the general weight loss plan. By this therapy medical agents,  homeopatic agents, plant extracts and vitamins are injected into the fat and connective tissues in the body parts treated. This stimulates the tissues to rid itself from superfluous fat.

Negative Calorie Diet - The theory behind this diet is that digesting and processing some kinds of food uses up more energy than the food furnishes. By having much of this food in your meals, you will burn fat even if you eat as much as you want. The diet also encourages to eat many meals a day to make the digestive system active and use up energy. Food having these properties are certain fruits like grapes and vegetables.

No Carb Diet -In this diet, food containing carbohydrates are not allowed. That means that allowed food are meat, fish, cheese, seafood, poultry and vegetables.

NutriSystem Diet - This diet is based on low fat consume, and a higher consume of carbohydrates with a low glycemic index. It is further based on a balanced food composition. It is also based on ready made meals. You can choose between several diet plans, among others vegarian diet plans and diabetic diet plans.

Raw food Diets - By these diets one only eat raw food in a certain period. Most of these diets are vegetarian and are composed of raw fruits, raw vegetables, raw watered cereals, sprouts of cereals and beans, nuts, seeds and roots. A supply of vitamins and minerals are often added. It is however possible to add raw fish, raw meat (tartar) or raw eggs to these diets even though most proponents do not endorse this. Some of these diets begin with a fasting period where one only consume juices. Raw food diet for a period can be very healthy, but as a permanent diet fish, meat, poultry, diery products, eggs or seafood should be added. Raw food diets are often offered by spas or health farms that one lives in for a period.

Scarsdale Diet - This is a high protein, high vitamine and mineral, low carbohydrate and moderate fat consume diet. There are only tree meals a day, and there are strict rules for allowed food types. The diet consists mainly of fruit, vegatables and lean sources of protein. Drinking great amounts of water is recommended. Appetite suppressors are also recommended detaills of the diet.

On original days you can have more protein and you can eat the amount you wish of fish, lean meat, and most fruit and vegetables. You must have a balance of the two types of days. There are also "syn" ratings for certain foods.  The number of syns you can eat each day depends on how fast you will go down in weight.

South Beach Diet - This diet restricts carbohydrats and also to some extend fat. It contains much proteins. It consists of three faces, where the restrictions of carbohydrates are loosened somewhat as one goes from one face to another. The carbohydrate allowed shall be of the low glycemic index, and the fat allowed should be of the healthy type.

Suzanne Sommer's Diet - This diet is based on elimination of sugar and white flour fom the meals. It is further based on a balanced composition of the dayly diet with all types of foods in their natural form. There are however specific rules for combining food types in each neal, and the theory goes that this aids fat burning. The diet is based upon a book with a lot of resceipts composed according to the principles.

Three Day's Diet Plan - This diet is based on three day's periods with strict calory restriction. You can eat anything you want during these days, but the amounts of each food sourc must be so that the calory intake is kept low. The 3 days period shall be repeated with regular intervals. Between the 3 day's period one shall eat normally. The plan has example manus to ease the composition of the food.

Total Health Makeover - This is a total health plan consisting of both diet and exercise. The diet is strictly vegetarian without animal food,  without diery products and also without stimulants like caffeine. It contains a 10 step program for a total lifestyle change.

Weight down workshop - This diet plan is founded by the dietrician Gwen Shamblin. The diet plan is also called the faith based diet plan, because the founder uses advices form the Bible or descriptions of food and diets found in the Bible as the base of her plan.  The plan combines the diet with religious practice, partly to for the sake of the religion itself and to give motivation for the diet plan. She has founded a religious organisation, The Remnant Fellowship Church, to help people with both weight problems, problems with drug abuse and help their spiritual life. The plan is based on the theory that food or drug abuse is a substitution for unfullfilled spiritual needs.

A core principle of the plan is to eat not more than needed in each meal. When the hunger for more food than that needed occur by the meals or between the meals, she advices to prey or read the Bible instead. Her diet plan and her orgaisation has resceived critisism because she emphasizes eating little insted of eating healthyly, and because she has an interpretetion of christian faith nor shared by most churches. She also teaches very controvercial principles of child disipline.

Weight Watchers Diet - This diet is based on restriction of the consume of energy, with no specific food types forbidden, that means in practise, reducing carbohydrate, fat or total food intake. The food types has a point value to measure how much one manage to reduce calory intake.

Zone Diet - In this diet one trie to establish a right proportion between proteins, fat and carbohydrates, with 30 % of the energy intake from proteins, 40 % from carbohydrates and 30 % from fat.

 

What is good dieting?

Here are some simple advices about good dieting:

1. Reduce your consume of fat, but do not cut out fat alltogether.

  • Do not add a lot of butter, margarine, oil or fat dressings to your food

  • Eat lean meat or cut away visible fat from the meat.

  • Eat lean fish, poultry and seafood. However you should eat some fat fish, because this kind of fat is good in small amounts.

  • Do not eat great amounts of nuts, sunflower seeds. almonds, fat seeds and the like. However eat some of these because the fat in this stuff is good for your health in small amounts. Variate between these types of seeds.

  • Reduce or cut out the consume of fat cookie, fat snacks, fast food and the like.

2. Reduce your consume of sugar and carbohydrates, but do not cut out carbohydrates alltogether.

  • Eat less bread, potatoes, peas, beans, cereals and the like. However, you need some whole grain cereals and othe whole food containing carbohydrates.

  • Reduce or cut out the consume of sweet caces, sweeties, seet drinks and the like.

3. Eat less alltogether. Perhaps you do not eat fat loaded or sugar loaded food, but just eat to much. Then just reduce the amout of food.

4. Get enough proteins. At each meals eat some lean fish, lean meat, poultry, lean diery products, mushrooms or seafood. If you are a vegetarian you must consume protein containing food like soy products, seeds, mushrooms and nuts and preferably in combination with some kinds of cereals to get a good amino acid profile.

5. Eat 4 or 5 moderate or small meals a day. Then your blood sugar levels will not swing and you are not tempted to over-eat. You will also burn fat better this way.

6. Some supplements can help you to reduce appetite or speed up your burning of fat. Consider if this will help you.

7. Excercise at least every second day. You should exercise both your condition, muscle strength and stretch out.

8. Eat healthy food.

  • Eat fruit and vegetables in natural form. Do not cook them so that the nutrients are washed out. Very gentle cooking is all right.

  • Eat some lean fish, lean meat, poultry, lean diery ware or laen seafod to evey meal.

  • Eat whole grain cereal, whole grain bread and other whole food types.

  • Sprouts from grain or beans are very healthy and nutrious.

  • Eat some limited amounts of fat fish, nuts, almomds, sunflower seeds and the like, because these food sources have fat which is god for you in smaller amounts.

  • The very little fat you add to your food should be oils like: Olive oil, rape oil, flax seed oil, soy oil, subflower oil. Do not use only olive oil, corn oil or sunflower oil, or flax seed oil, because then you get too much of some fatty acids. A combination of olive oil, flax seed oil and sunflower oil gives you a good fat composition.

  • Do not eat ready made dishes from teh gocery stoor or fast food. The companies making such dishes allways cheat you on nutrient content to make the production as cheap as possible.
